Resume writing is both a skill and an
art. Your resume is the first, and possibly the last, impression a
prospective employer has of you and your skills. When composing your
resume keep in mind the following items:
Your resume has about 45 seconds to
make a good impression of you and encourages the employer to read further
Keep your resume down to one or two pages
Your resume should sell, as well as tell
Remember "the three C's"
Clear - well organized, eye catching, professionally word-processed
Concise - no irrelevant information (age, marital status, birthplace, experience
in reverse chronological order. No abbreviations - spell out the whole
word, except standard two-letter state abbreviations
Consistent - factual information - be 100% honest. Make it easy to
understand, use same headings on all pages
| | |
Do's and Don'ts
Don't cross out, make corrections, or hand write notes on your resume
Don't list your references on your resume - use a separate page
Do let the company or person know that you would like to use their name as a
reference before placing them on the list
Do use quality bond paper
Do have at least two people proofread for grammar, spelling and typing errors
